Following Rahul Gandhi’s allegations over zero address, the Election Commission has issued new guidelines to improve voter registration and polling station management.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now assign “Notional House Numbers” where official house numbers are unavailable, ensuring all members of a household are grouped together. Each notional number will be prefixed with “N” (e.g., N1, N2) and paired with nearby landmarks for easy identification, said EC source.
The move also emphasizes family grouping, families at the same address, residents of the same building, and neighbors on the same street will be kept in the same polling section wherever possible.
Ahead of draft electoral roll publication, authorities will remove duplicates, standardize addresses, and verify photographs to ensure accuracy.
