The National Commission for Women today said it will open a Premarital Counseling Centre in every district in the country as a new initiative.
Talking to media in Patna, Chairperson of NCW, Vijaya Rahatkar said this is the new initiative of the Commission launched on this year International Women’s Day.
She said that in 11 states so far, 23 such Centres have been opened. The Chairperson said these counseling centres will be opened at government spaces and will be operated under the supervision of district or municipal bodies.
Mrs. Rahtakar said these pre-marital centres will help those couples who are going to tie the knot. The Chairperson said at the centre counsel will provide help regarding social psychology and behavioral aspects of marriage. She added that rising marital disputes, divorce cases, failure marriages are issue of concern as joint families are disintegrating into nuclear families.
The Chairperson is on a three-day visit to Bihar from today. She held meetings with police and other government officials of 47 departments regarding preventive measures of sexual harassment, gender based offence and exploitation of women.
