Doctors of AIIMS have said that it doesn’t seem possible that the eye sight of 40 patients of Badwani incident can be restored. An eight member team of doctors from AIIMS New Delhi arrived in Indore this afternoon to examine the eye patients. After seeing patients, senior eye specialists Dr. Atul Kumar told media that more than 45 per cent portion of eyes of 40 patients caught infection and infection even infected retina. 45 patients have been admitted in Indore so far. He said that there could be several reasons for infection including eye solutions and equipments used during the surgery.
Over 80 eye patients were operated upon in the health camp held Badwani district hospital in November. 45 patients were referred to Indore after they complained about loss of vision.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had talked to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and sought his cooperation in the treatment of patients. After his discussions with Mr. Nadda, the central team of doctors was sent to Indore. The state government has announced that it will bear entire cost of treatment of these eye patients. It has also set up a team to probe the incident and suspended six persons including ophthalmologist R S Palod.
