At least 5 persons have been injured in a blast at Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati this evening. Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay ruled out uses of IED or grenade in the blast. Mr. Sahay said that the blast occurred due to keeping of crackers like objects or bottles in garbage. He said that enquiry has been ordered into the case. Kamrup Metro district Deputy Commissioner M . Angamuthu said that it was a low intensity blast. He said that forensic team is investigating the matter.

Fancy Bazar is the business hub of the state. Police have picked up two persons for enquiry. Union Sports minister Sarbanand Sonowal has condemned the incident and wished speedy recovery of the injured. Meanwhile, DGP Mukesh Sahay has alerted all police stations to remain vigil against possible attack of militant outfits including ULFA and NDFB against civilians.

Official sources said that police intercepted calls from top National Democratic Front of Bodoland – Songbijit faction militants to attack a particular community in Assam and neighbouring states.
