Police today arrested senior Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kantilal Bhuria at Mandsaur border in Ratlam district. They were trying to go to violence hit Mandsaur district and meet the families of the deceased farmers. Several other Congress leaders were arrested with them.

A large number of Congress leaders staged a protest at the toll booth, blocking the Neemuch-Ajmer highway.

“If chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan can come and visit Mandsaur tomorrow, why should a common citizen of the country be stopped,” Scindia asked the police officials, who informed him about the prohibitory orders.
“We just want to meet the kin of the deceased farmers. We are not here to incite violence,” he said.

Upon being denied entry, Scindia staged a sit-in with other leaders, raising slogans against the chief minister and the BJP government. He demanded immediate action against policemen allegedly involved in shooting at Pipliamandi on June 6, killing

Six people were killed during firing in Mandsaur during farmers agitation on Tuesday last.

Earlier, Paatidar leader of Gujarat Hardik Patel was arrested at Neemuch border. He was also trying to go Mandsaur.

Meanwhile, a criminal case has been registered against Congress MLA Shakuntla Khateek and block Congress president Vinay Goyal for inciting violence during farmers agitation in Karera of Shivpuri.

Police sources said, a case has been lodged against both the leaders and some others for inciting violence, making disruptions in government work and other sections.

A video had gone viral in social media in which Shakuntla Khateek could be seen inciting her supporters to burn police station during a bandh call by the Congress. Both Ms. Khateek and Mr Goyal are on run.
3 farmers commit suicides in 24 hours in Madhya Pradesh

Three farmers reportedly committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the number of farmer suicides in the state in the past one week to five.

Two allegedly debt-ridden farmers committed suicide at Jajna village under Rehti police station area in Sehore district and in Bhairpur village of Hoshangabad district, respectively.

Also, a farmer from Vidisha district died during treatment in Bhopal where he was admitted after consuming poisonous pills yesterday.

A debt-ridden 55-year old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance yesterday at Jajna village in Sehore, the home district of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Dulichand Keer, the farmer, was declared brought dead at the hospital.

The latest reports of suicides come in the wake of a slew of measures announced by the state government to contain acute agrarian distress and anger after five farmers were killed in police firing at Mandsaur on June 6.
