Mizoram is aiming to become the first state in the country to complete Census 2027. Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena reviewed preparations for the second phase of the population enumeration at a state-level conference in Aizawl today. He stressed the need for accuracy and timely completion, highlighting the importance of census data in policymaking and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Officials said all 16 Scheduled Castes in Mizoram, along with refugees residing in the state, will be included in the census. However, the inclusion of refugees will not confer Indian citizenship. They also clarified that people who do not wish to share their Aadhaar numbers must not be compelled to do so, and those excluded from the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls will also be counted.
Training for master trainers, field trainers, enumerators and supervisors is scheduled to be completed by November. Each enumerator is expected to cover around 800 people. The Centre has allocated 19 crore 19 lakh rupees to Mizoram for conducting the second phase of Census 2027.
