The Maharashtra Ex-Servicemen’s Corporation recently launched Veer Yatra, a military tourism initiative in Pune. The government of Maharashtra undertaking will organize guided tours to the choicest locations of military importance with retired veterans from the services.
Veer Yatra initiative of Maharashtra Ex-Servicemen’s Corporation has gone live with nine locations, including Nathu-La Pass, Goa-Karwar and Janjira Fort. It will incorporate more places of interest in future.
Currently MESCO is focusing on areas of historic importance. They are going to organize fort tours with designated ex-servicemen, who will narrate the historical battles that were fought at the locations. Plans also include setting up camp fire sites on certain tours where war veterans will narrate their experiences from the battle field.
The organisation is also planning to introduce visits to important establishments, such as Pune-based Arm Sports Institute, which is the training ground for over half the Olympians representing the country at the global quadrennial event.
The idea is to encourage the youth to take up services as a career option and be responsible citizens of the country in whatever field they are. The initiative also aims to provide employment to 1,000 ex-servicemen and war widows over the next year.
