The mercury touched down to the lowest this winter triggering a cold wave in Kolkata and other part of West Bengal today. The coldest day of the season severely affected the flight and train schedules. Airport Authority has altered flight schedules from Dum Dum and Bagdogra airports while 14 long distance trains were rescheduled by the Eastern and South Eastern Railways in Kolkata.

Met office recorded the minimum temperature in Kolkata as 11.4 degree Celsius, 3 notches down from the overnight temperature. The maximum temperature of the city has been registered at 22.3 degree Celsius which is 4 degrees below normal. Met office said, similar conditions are likely to prevail during the next 48 hours. Bengal districts are also shivering with the mercury ranging from 6 to 8 degree Celsius in West Midnapore, Bankura and Raigunj today. Heavy fog conditions compelled the authorities at Bagdogra airport to cancel all the 12 flights yesterday.
