The Union Cabinet has recommended imposition of President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh. Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju yesterday said, the constitutional crisis in the state is the creation of Congress party itself. He said, the six month mandatory period to have an assembly session lapsed on 21st of this month. Mr Rijiju said, the continuation of the government is unconstitutional in the Arunachal Pradesh and therefore President rule has been recommended. Mr Rijiju said, the question of BJP forming the government does not arise at all. He said, it is the MLAs who will decide the future course of action.

Meanwhile, reacting to government decision, the Congress said it will challenge the decision in court. Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said, the government move is unconstitutional. Arunachal Pradesh was rocked by a political crisis on 16th December last year as 21 rebel Congress MLAs joined hands with 11 of BJP and two independents to impeach Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia at a makeshift venue. The Speaker termed the move as illegal and unconstitutional.
