JAMMU / AMN
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti today took oath as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Governor NN Vohra administered oath to Ms Mufti at Raj Bhawan in the winter capital city of Jammu a shortwhile ago.
BJP leader Nirmal Singh took oath as Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
The Governor invited Ms Mufti to form and lead the PDP-BJP coalition Government in the state on Sunday.
With this, over two and half month long Governor rule in the state comes to an end which was imposed on January 8 after the demise of former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
The revival of the BJP-PDP coalition – after three months of stalemate – has brought an end to the Governor’s rule, which was imposed in the state after Mehbooba’s father and incumbent Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed passed away.
Mehbooba was administered the oath of office by Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhavan in Jammu.
The PDP has 27 members while BJP has 25. Peoples’ Conference has two MLAs while two other independents are supporting the coalition.
