Bangladesh’s student leader of anti-discrimination movement that toppled Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government, Nahid Islam, now National Citizen Party (NCP) convener, has alleged that several advisers in the Yunus-led interim government have “betrayed” the 2024 uprising’s ideals and are preparing for a “safe exit” with political backing.

“They have already made arrangements for their own well-being,” Nahid told a private TV channel. “We will reveal their names soon.”

He admitted it was a mistake to trust some advisers, saying, “Without student participation, the government would not have survived even three months.”
Nahid claimed the advisers had aligned with political parties, while student leaders bore the brunt of responsibility. “Had there been a national government instead of one led by civil society, this regret would not exist,” he said.
