Maumoon-arrest

Maldives government has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the ongoing crisis in the wake of emergency.

A short statement issued from the President’s Office said, invitations have been sent to all parties to engage in dialogue with the Government.

However, with all the main opposition leaders either in prison or in exile, it is unlikely that opposition parties will agree for the talks.

Maldives Supreme Court last week ordered for the release of opposition leaders but the ruling was overturned after declaration of emergency in the country.

The Chief Justice and another Supreme Court judge are currently under arrest, which has invited international condemnation.

Lawyers of the Chief Justice, who met him under detention, said that the judge was issued death threat and was mishandled before the arrest.
Meanwhile, a few European diplomats met Maldives foreign ministry officials in Male on Thursday and sought to discuss the situation with President Yameen and Parliamentary speaker, which was refused.
