A delegation of Congress leaders from Maharashtra led by former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Leader of the Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao. It demanded convening of a special session of the State Legislature to discuss the drought situation in the State.

The 12-member congress delegation Mumbai Pradesh congress committee presented a memorandum to the Governor, stating shortage of drinking water supply, inadequate fodder and water for cattle and lack of employment in drought-hit areas of Marathwada region. The state Congress chief also informed the governor that the party is in the process of formulating an action plan to assist the affected people.

Seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for providing relief to farmers in the State, the memorandum accused Devendra Fadnavis government of not taking the opposition into confidence to tackle the drought. It said there are only hollow announcements and nothing concrete on the ground.
