Lok Sabha is taking up the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address to the joint houses of Parliament. Speaking during the discussion, Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said the President’s speech was the same as previous years.
Raising the issue of unemployment, Mr. Gandhi said the future of the country lies with the youth, and the issues to be prioritized should be about them. He said the problem of unemployment still remains and the government has failed to address it, even though the country is growing. He said manufacturing fell from 15.3 percent of GDP to 12.6 percent of GDP, which is the lowest share in the GDP in the past 60 years. He also mentioned that the government’s flagship program, Make in India, was a good idea conceptually, but the government has failed to implement it effectively. He added that despite having resources, the country has failed to organize production in comparison to other countries. He said it is imperative that India must focus on production. He also stated that the Constitution is supreme and will always rule the country.
Earlier, moving the motion, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri of the BJP listed the works done by the Narendra Modi-led government and the public welfare schemes. He attacked the AAP-ruled Delhi government for allegedly not implementing various central schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, in the national capital and for denying people basic healthcare, housing, and other facilities. He accused the Delhi government of working against the interests of J.J. colonies.
Mr. Bidhuri said the central government has also taken steps to provide ownership rights to people residing in 1,700 unauthorized colonies in the national capital. He also raised the issue of poor road conditions, air pollution, and problems with public transport facilities in the city. The BJP member also accused Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal of lavish spending on his official residence as Delhi CM. The discussion is underway.
