Lok Sabha Secretariat makes elaborate arrangements for new MPs

(Last Updated On: 22/05/2019)

Staff Reporter / NEW DELHI

The Lok Sabha Secretariat has made elaborate arrangements for accommodation of the newly elected Members of the House. They will be accommodated in Western court and its newly built Annexe and various State Bhawans in the national capital.

Briefing media about the arrangements made for the members of 17th Lok Sabha, the Lok Sabha Secretary General Snehlata Shrivastava said that the Returning Officers in all Parliamentary Constituencies have already been informed about the arrangements being made by the Secretariat for the newly elected members like accommodation and telephone facilities.

The newly elected members will be immediately issued Permanent Identity Cards on their arrival in Parliament House unlike earlier when they were issued temporary passes. Guide Posts have also been set up at IGI Airport and Railway Stations in Delhi to receive them on their arrival.

The Secretariat has also set up Guide Posts at Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminals I, II and III), New Delhi Railway Station (both Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj side), Old Delhi Railway Station, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and Anand Vihar Railway Station to receive the newly-elected Members. These Guide Posts will function on 23rd May 2019 from 6 PM to 11 PM and thereafter from 24th to 28th May, 2019 from 5 AM to 11PM. These Guide Posts are basically Reception Centres where Members will be received on their arrival in the capital.

As in the past, Room No. 62, FF, Parliament House will function as the Facilitation Centre for the new Members, which will be functional from 23 May 2019(AN) to 28 May 2019. This time all formalities and paper-work relating to the registration, salary and allowances, nominations, transit accommodation and a host of other matters would be got completed at a single desk. This new system will not only obviate the need of the Member moving from desk to desk but also save a substantial amount of time.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat has brought out Revised Editions of various publications, including the Constitution of India, the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha, Directions by the Speaker, Hand Book for Members and other introductory books on Parliament for information and use of new Members. In its mission to make the Parliament a paperless institution, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has introduced some changes in regard to the publications which are given to the newly elected Members. While revised and updated volumes of Constitution, Rules, Directions and some other publications are being given to them in hard copies, several other publications are being given to the Members this time in a pendrive as soft copies for their convenience.

Medical Posts will also function on a 24X7 basis in Parliament House and Western Court.

For any assistance with regard to various Members’ facilities, such as Transit Accommodation, Regular Accommodation, Telephone connections, Diplomatic Passports, etc., the Members may contact Members’ Service Branch, Room No. 402, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi (Telephone Nos. 23034402 and 23034452) on all working days during the office hours.
