Life is limping back to normal in Mumbai as no rain ws received since last night. The Wednesday morning has brought a sigh of relief for the Mumbaikars who experienced horrifying day yesterday following torential rains causing flooding of city roads and bringing life to standstill.
The rain has stopped, water has started draining and the city is limping back to normalcy.
The suburban trains started running late in the night to evacuate passengers stranded in stations. The first train left Churchgate in south Mumbai for Virar at the midnight, the Western Railway tweeted.
It said in a tweet, evacuation of all stranded passengers is priority and trains will be run throughout the night, if required.
BEST is operating extra buses from CSMT towards Thane via eastern free way. Most of the people had to stay back in their offices yesterday. As the rail and road traffic is getting normal, they are returning home.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared a public holiday for state government staff barring essential services. The CM in a tweet last night advised citizens to stay indoors adding that the essential services and critical staff in the Government will be on duty on Wednesday.
Navy helicopters were on standby to meet any eventuality in view of heavy rains while the NDRF too has been put on alert. Flood rescue teams and divers are also ready for deployment, a Navy spokesperson said.
The authorities including Mumbai Police and the Railways were active on their social media handles through the night to keep citizens informed.
