Union Information and Technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that the government is committed not to let India become centre of data pilferage. Addressing the Asia media Summit in New Delhi, he said that language used on social media platforms sometimes is a ’cause of concern’.

Prasad said that the government will not allow India to become a centre for data pilferage. In the backdrop of Cambridge Analytica scam, Minister’s comment once again reinforces the resolve of the centre in protecting the privacy of the citizens.

Ravi Shankar Prasad also said the centre was committed to the freedom of expression but content in social media should not pose any danger to the society. He also stressed that no institution can remain unaccountable, adding that privacy cannot become a shield of corrupt.

The union minister also expressed a word of caution for the unparliamentary language that is often used in expressing the views in the social media and highlighted the need to address the problem.
