The Election Commission has decided to set up 450 Sakhi Pink booths during the Karnataka Assembly elections.
The booths will be managed completely by female staff including presiding officer, polling officer, micro observers and security personnel.
These are done for the first time in the state with an objective to empower and encourage women voters.
Pink booths will be opened in areas where the female population is more than male voters. Another first during the election in the state is to offer various facilities to specially-abled voters.
Apart from the wheelchair, Braille chart and magnifying glass, the polling personnel are instructed that such special voters should not be made to wait in the queues and given priority in voting with assistance.
