modiAhead of his visit to Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he wants to work with Japan to help create a free and open Indo-Pacific region, adding that Japan is an essential partner.

In an interview to japan’s NHK, PM Modi said, “India and Japan share common values, with both countries adhering to the principles of democracy. Together, we can play an important role in world peace.”

Modi also hailed Japanese technology, and highlighted how strong economic exchanges between the two countries have benefitted both sides. He said, “Japan is a country of innovation, and India wants to quickly adopt Japanese technology. Japan has recently been the largest investor in India, with both our economies growing.”

Modi said he wants to create new momentum for closer ties during his upcoming visit. He will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe next week.
