All 4 terrorists who carried out major attack on rear base of an Army unit in Uri of Jammu and Kashmir belonged to Jaish e Mohammed.
Briefing media, the DG Military Operations, Lt. General Ranbir Singh said that army recovered 4 AK 47 rifles, 4 Under Barrel Grenade Launchers and other war-like stores from the 4 slain terrorists.
Lt. General Ranbir Singh said that some items recovered from terrorists were carry Pakistan markings. He also spoke to the Pakistan DGMO on the Uri attack.
DGMO further said that 17 soldiers martyred in the attack. Out of which 13 to 14 men died primarily because tents and temporary shelters caught fire.
DGMO lauded the role of the Indian Army saying that the Army acted in extremely professional manner.
The Army is carrying out complete search of the area. He said that the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar being briefed by Army Chief.
DGMO said that the brave sacrifice by Army is something to be saluted and that any nefarious design by enemy will be thwarted by the Indian Army.
He said, Indian army is prepared for any evil design by the adversary, & will give a befitting response.
Meawhile, Army chief Dalbir Singh has reached Srinagar to review the situation in the wake of terror attack in Uri.
Defence minister Manohar Parrikar has reached Srinagar and is being briefed by Army Chief on the operations.
Condemning Uri Attack, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh said that simply saying this as an act of cowardice does not suffice, because not responding would also be cowardice.. He said collective efforts are needed to thwart such an attack.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the Uri Attack. In her tweet she said, attack seems to be aimed at triggering fresh violence and creating a war-like situation in the region. President Pranab Mukherjee has strongly reacted to the Uri attack. In a tweet, President said: India will not be cowed down by such attacks, we will thwart the evil designs of terrorists and their backers. Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman condemning the terror attack said that these are clear attempts to destabilize internal peace & harmony in country.
The Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir has said that the govt of India is taking the attack on URI sector very seriously.
Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that in this hour of crisis entire country is united. He said the need of the hour is to boost the morale of security forces and give a befitting reply to the enemy.
Defence Expert Qamar Agha termed the attack a publicity stunt and said militants can’t do much harm to the military base. He said there are clear indications that the attackers were trained by Pak intelligence agency ISI.
Defence Expert SR Sinho said the Uri terror attack indicates that Pakistan has declared proxy war. Sinho added that India has to take a practical approach.
This is the first major attack on an Army installation in Uri sector in nearly two years.
