Five border residents were injured as the cross border firing along the international border continued on the fifth consecutive day in Samba and Kathua Sectors of Jammu region. An official spokesperson said in Jammu today that Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing last evening in Samba and Kathua districts and the firing lasted till whole night. He said intermittent firing is still in progress, adding that five people from border hamlets sustained injuries in the night-long firing.

The spokesperson said, Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing of 82 mortars and heavy machine guns in the Samba sector targeting several BSF Posts and border villages. He said gradually the firing was heard in the adjoining areas of Hiranagar, Kathua and Ramgarh Sectors.

As many as 30 BSF Outposts were targeted by the Rangers,” he said, adding that BSF troops at all the places gave a befitting reply with similar calibre weapon. Samba and Kathua district administrations have shifted the border people to temples, government buildings and community halls while ambulances and bullet proof vehicles have been pressed into service to evacuate those injured.
