The Indian Railway Catering And Tourism Corporation, IRCTC, will operate and manage luxury train, Golden Chariot from March next year.
An agreement in this regard was signed between Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation, KSTDC, and IRCTC in New Delhi, in the presence of Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi and Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi.
Earlier, the train was operated under a joint venture between KSTDC and the Ministry of Railways.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Angadi said the step will go a long way in enhancing rail tourism in southern India. He said IRCTC should work on providing tickets of other trains to the common man at a competitive price.
The Golden Chariot Train, which commenced operations in 2008, travels through one of the famous tourist and picturesque destinations of Karnataka, including the UNESCO world heritage site, Hampi. It has 18 coaches with 44 guest rooms having a capacity for 84 guests.
The train promises to offer world-class comfort, state-of-the-art amenities and enhanced and unforgettable experience to passengers.
