South India’s iconic luxury rail experience is getting a high-tech facelift. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has officially unveiled the upgraded Golden Chariot for the 2026-27 tourist season, rolling out overhauled interiors, smart guest amenities, and fortified safety features across three newly curated itineraries designed to capture the region’s rich cultural landscape.
The train features redesigned interiors, upgraded cabins with plush furnishings, smart TVs, and Wi-Fi-enabled entertainment systems. Safety measures have also been strengthened with the installation of CCTV surveillance and advanced fire alarm systems. The luxury train can accommodate up to 80 guests across 40 cabins, including double-bed, twin-bed, and a specially designed cabin for differently abled passengers. It added that the three curated itineraries have been announced for the upcoming season.
The ‘Pride of Karnataka’ tour spans six days, covering destinations such as Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hampi, and Goa. The ‘Jewels of South’ itinerary includes Mysuru, Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur, and Cochin, while the shorter ‘Glimpses of Karnataka’ offers a four-day journey through key heritage sites.
