Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday warned that India could face a serious energy crisis in the coming months, saying that cooking gas, petrol and other fuels could become a major problem as the country’s energy security has been compromised due to what he termed a flawed foreign policy.
Addressing reporters, the Leader of the Opposition said the government still has some time to prepare for the potential crisis and must begin preparations immediately to protect citizens from the fallout.
“Basically the main issue is that gas is going to be a problem, petrol is going to be a problem and all fuels are going to be a problem because essentially our energy security has been compromised,” Gandhi said.
He said the government and Narendra Modi must start preparing now, warning that failure to act could cause massive losses to millions of people
“Right now there is still a little time. The government and the Prime Minister should start preparations immediately. If preparations are not done, then crores of people will suffer huge losses,” he said.
Gandhi stressed that the emerging global situation, particularly tensions involving Iran, is part of a much larger geopolitical shift and not merely about whether oil supplies are allowed or restricted.
