The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami called on the Railway Minister of Bangladesh Md. Nurul Islam Sujan in Dhaka on Wednesday. They discussed the issues relating to implementation of railways projects being built with Indian support in Bangladesh. The two sides reviewed the status of the ongoing projects like the Akhaura-Agartala railway line. The railway minister told the Indian High Commissioner that he will inspect the project next month to decide the next course of action.
The meeting discussed the Indian-funded Khulna-Mongla project, construction of Bogra-Sirajganj new railway line, construction of coach factory at Saidpur, Dhaka-Tongi project, Tongi-Joydebpur double line construction project and Kulaura-Shahbazpur project. Besides, construction of Sirajganj ICD with Indian grant and construction of a new ICD at Ishwardi were also discussed, said an official press release of the Bangladesh Rail Ministry.
The minister also expressed interest in importing broad gauge coaches, flat wagons and 54 tourist coaches from India to run on the Cox’s Bazar line.
