The presidents of the PDP and the BJP were scheduled to meet Vohra in Jammu today but they did not turn up.

Govt formation: PDP, BJP ask Governor for more time

However, it is expected that PDP as well as BJP leadership will have the meetings with the Governor soon.

Speaking to media persons in Jammu after the BJP Legislature party meeting, the BJP Sate president Sat Pal Sharma made it clear that they will meet the Governor in next couple of days.

He added that meanwhile, before that a joint meeting would be held between both the parties to discuss various issues.

Later in the day, the PDP Chief Ministerial candidate Mehbooba Mufti also postponed its scheduled meeting with the Governor.

Earlier, during the legislature party meeting BJP unanimously declared that there will be no change in ‘Agenda of Alliance’ for government formation and BJP MLA, Dr Nirmal Singh will be the one again the candidate for Deputy Chief Ministerial chair.

The meeting was chaired by national general secretary Ram Madhav and MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh. Later Dr. Singh also made it clear that there was no breakdown between PDP-BJP and it was a process of continuation.

The Governor on March 23 had addressed letters to PDP-BJP heads to clear their stand on Government formation and meet him.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday asked Governor NN Vohra for more time on government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The presidents of the PDP and the BJP were scheduled to meet Vohra in Jammu today afternoon.

“Raj Bhavan was approached by PDP today afternoon to ascertain whether the PDP and BJP leaders could meet the Governor together today evening. This was agreed to,” said a spokesman.

“PDP and BJP leaders had later informed Raj Bhavan that talks were ongoing at Jammu between the leaders of their parties and they would make a fresh request for meeting the Governor when they had concluded their discussions.”

Menwhile the State BJP elected Dr Nirmal Singh as Legislative Party leader in a meeting of BJP legislators held at Jammu.

Dr Singh was also nominated candidate for Deputy Chief Minister’s position who has served in the same capacity in previous PDP BJP coalition government. BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav and BJP MP and Union Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh also attended the meeting.

Today’s meeting followed the PDP’s Legislative Party meeting yesterday at Srinagar in which Mehbooba Mufti was elected Legislative Party leader and nominated candidate for chief minister’s position in the new government.

Sources said during today’s meeting, Delhi’s BJP leadership communicated to State BJP leaders that no fresh conditions by PDP had been accepted and the alliance with the PDP will continue on the basis of the agenda of alliance agreed upon earlier by the two parties.

The formal date for swearing in for new government in Jammu & Kashmir, is yet to be finalized. PDP and BJP seemed to have not completed their formal talks over various issues of governance in the next government under the leadership of first J&K woman chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. Both the parties have sought more time from Governor.
