Heat wave continues to sweep Uttar Pradesh. The mercury has kept soaring since last one week making life miserable for the common people. Bundelkhand region, Agra, Allahabad and Lucknow divisions are experiencing more intense heat wave as these places are also swept by very hot westerly winds. The weather department has predicted that there is no likelihood of any letup from grueling heat going on in the state in the coming four five days. Allahabad, Sultanpur, Varanasi and Banda are among the places which continue to boil with temperatures of over 46 Degrees Celsius. Heat strokes have claimed five lives in the state as three people in Allahabad and one each in Fatehpur and Auraiyya were killed due to it. The electricity demand has shot up to over 14000 MW in peak hours of evening making an acute shortage of nearly 4000 Mega Watts of power. People have to bear the long power cuts which has made the sizzling weather more unbearable for them.
