New Delhi: Campus front of India (CFI), Jawarhalal Nehru University (JNU) organized a public meeting on Hashimpura Massacre at JNU on April 20, 2015. The eminent guests include Mr. Vibhuti Narain Rai(Ex IPS and The then SP of Ghaziabad who closely monitored the case and filed FIR’s), Syed Faisal Ali(Group Editor, Rashtriya Sahara Group), Dr. Pradeep Shinde (Professor,JNU), and Dr Ghazala Zamil (Professor, JNU).
The gathering was attended by huge number of students of JNU Most of them the Research Scholars. Mr. Subhajit Naskar (Campus Front JNU Unit) Gave the introductory address. He gave a brief introduction to the Hashimpura Massacre which took place on 22nd May, 1987. “Hashimpura is case where Justice has been delayed as well as denied. However, he shown faith in judicial system and hoped that ultimately perpetrators will punished”. he noted
Dr Shinde then expressed his views on this particular issue. He stated in his speech that He is dismayed by the judgment. And the continuing stereotype of Muslims is very dangerous symptom for the Democracy. He further said the right wing juggernaut on the Minority and Marginalized communities are a matter of great concern.
Dr. Zamil said in her address to the students said that at least compensatory justice should have been provided to the victims. Further she said it is the duty of the state to protect the minorities.
Mr V N Rai made it clear that as a police officer he took oath by the Indian Constitution and it is his duty to uphold the Indin Constitution. He thinks he was doing that by protecting the victims. He said being a fiction writer I write abstract things in a living format but his experiences of Hashimpura Massacre in his own eyes can never be written, he thinks there is no language for that. On the other hand he said, being a citizen of this country I saw secularism was murdered infront of secular governments of Congress. He appealed to the students to stand by secularism and uphold the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
Mr Syed Faisal Ali said Media is not playing the role of referee properly rather it takes stance on issues, which is a dangerous indication. He further added Media is sometimes prejudiced towards Minority community. Also Media in India in terms of maturity is at an Infant stage.
Khalid Khan, Campus Front National Treasurer then gave the conclusive remarks. In his address on behalf of CFI Khalid Said that riot is a social problem and hence solution should be social. He stressed on strengthening constitutional ethos in India society. He also remarked that the diversity of Indian society should be reflected in every institution of the government.
At the end there was an interesting question answer session. Mr. V.N. Rai had faced many questions related to secularism, riots, role of police which he dealt beautifully.
CFI-JNU is going to organize a ‘March for Justice’ from Ganga Dhaba to Chandrabhaga Dhaba on 20th April, 9.30 pm which was announced in the public meeting itself.
