About 47 percent turnout has been recorded in the elections of six municipal corporations today. Six municipal corporations, which went for polling are Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.

According to initial data of State Election Commission, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Jamnagar Municipal corporations have recorded about 47 percent voting. Maximum 50 percent voting has been recorded in Bhavnagar and Rajkot Municipal corporations.

Surat Municipal Corporation has recorded 45 percent voting. Ruling BJP and opposition congress- both the parties have claimed for their victory. Counting of votes will be held on 2nd December after the 2nd phase of polling on 29th November in District, Taluka panchayats and Municipalities.

Moderate but peace full polling has been recorded in six municipal corporations in Gujarat. Now the fate of 1856 candidates has been sealed in Electronic voting machines. BJP and Congress have claimed their victories and praised the voters for encouraging turnout. Congress has also complained to the State Election Commission for deletion of names of 10 thousand voters in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. BJP is in power in all six municipal corporations which went to poll, but this time Congress is also confident to do well.
