Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said that the Government is determined to minimize the impact of natural disasters on farmers. Addressing media on the completion of one year of NDA government, Mr Singh said government’s tackling of the shortfall in last year’s monsoon reflects this determination.
He said, despite 12 per cent deficiency in rainfall, there was only two per cent shortfall in production last year. Mr Singh said, Indian Council of Agricultural Research has produced many drought resistant varieties and government has adequate stock of these seeds to meet any contingency.
The Minister also informed that Minimum Support Price for all crops will be announced within 15 days. He said, government will bring a new crop insurance scheme consultations with various stakeholders.
