Giving a boost to health and medical education, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, gave its approval for setting up 24 new medical colleges, increase seats for UG and PG courses, at a total estimated cost of Rs 14,930.
92 crore upto 2019-20.

The 24 new medical colleges will be established in the ‘underserved’ locations, which will be selected within the identified areas in ‘challenging mode’, an official release informed.

The CCEA gave its approval for the increase of 10,000 Under-Graduate seats by 2020-21 and 8,058 Post Graduate seats (4,058 in Phase-l by 2018-19 and 4,000 in Phase-ll by 2020-21) in the existing state government/central government medical colleges.

The CCEA approved to set up 112 Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) schools and 136 General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) schools in underserved districts.
