Govt clears Major Ports Authority Bill; approves Pesticide Management Bill

Union Cabinet today cleared the Major Ports Authority Bill. The Bill will replace 1963 law governing the country’s 12 major ports.

The legislation will be introduced in the second part of the Budget session of Parliament. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, the proposed law is aimed at enhancing the overall efficiencies of the ports.

The Cabinet also approved the protocol amending the Agreement between India and Sri Lanka for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. It also gave its nod to an MoU between India and Iceland in the field of Sustainable Fisheries Development.

Union Cabinet has approved the Pesticide Management Bill 2020. The Bill is aimed at protecting the interest of farmers by ensuring that they get safe and effective pesticides.

Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, the bill will be introduced in the second part of the Budget session of Parliament. He said, the legislation will promote organic pesticides in the country.
