Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia says India aims to lead the world in 6G

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today said that India followed the world on 4G, marched with it on 5G and will lead the world on 6G. Addressing the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) Symposium 2026 in New Delhi, the Minister said that the country has become a telecom equipment exporter from being an importer. 

The Minister said that eight to nine semiconductor fabs are coming up in the country, including one in the north-eastern states. Further, he highlighted that in 2020 the mobile production industry in India was producing almost 2 lakh crore worth of mobile phones but today the country is producing mobile phones worth 6.27 lakh crore rupees. Mr Scindia also mentioned that today hundred percent of all mobile phones used in the country are made in India. The Minister added that today India is the second largest mobile telecom market in the world, with 1.35 billion mobile connections in the country.
