France is set to welcome its first major Hindu temple with the upcoming inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Bussy-Saint-Georges, near Paris, scheduled for September. The historic opening will feature a 13-day “Festival of Culture” from September 2 to 14, 2026, with blessings from Mahant Swami Maharaj, drawing devotees and well-wishers from around the globe.
Ahead of the grand inauguration, swamis and devotees gathered to perform sacred rituals, including the “Kalash” and “Dhaja Dand Pujans” atop the central dome and “shikhars,” accompanied by Vedic chants for peace and harmony. Built using stones brought from India, the temple is envisioned as a vibrant center of devotion and culture. The Indian diaspora in France has expressed immense pride, noting that the landmark establishment will further strengthen the spiritual and cultural bonds between India and France.
