ALIGARH: In a landmark move, doctors at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, conducted the first therapeutic ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography) on a 65 year old lady patient who carried Gall Bladder Stones and CBD stones.

Prof. Madad Ali, a senior Gastroenterologist in USA with ERCP as his thrust area, who has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, carried out the ERCP on two patients and successfully cleared the CBD stones. The CBD on another patient who was having obstructive jaundice was normal on USG. On ERCP no stones or lesion was seen in the CBD and the CBD was found to be of normal caliber with a long cystic duct. Both the patients are doing well. Prof. Madad Ali plans to conduct more therapeutic ERCPs over the week.

Prof. Mohammad Habib Raza, Chairman, Department of Surgery, said that Prof. Madad Ali has joined the Department of Surgery as an Adjunct Professor initially for 3 weeks now while he will also join again in October 2015 for a period of 4-6 months.

Prof. Raza said that Prof. Ali’s appointment will facilitate training of the consultants and residents in therapeutic ERCP and other advanced Endoscopic procedures at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. He hoped that Prof. Ali’s joining will make it possible for the patients to get best possible treatment at JNMC instead of being referred to Delhi or other cities.

Prof. Raza has thanked the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah for granting permission to appoint Prof. Madad Ali as a visiting faculty.
