Taking note of an incident of alleged manhandling of two journalists of a news channel, the Guild asked Mayawati to take all necessary steps to ensure that the media can function freely in the state. The statement issued by Guild President T N Ninan and Secretary Coomi Kapoor has cited instances where journalists were harassed by the Uttar Pradesh Police particularly while reporting recent incidents of violence against women.
