The Election Commission has flagged its concern over black money being pumped through the hawala route in poll-bound Bihar. Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Nasim Zaidi has tasked the income tax authorities to trace the hawala route and plug it before the five phase assembly elections begin on October 12.
In a letter to the Income tax(IT) brass, the CEC asked IT sleuths to tighten their surveillance. Six of the seven assembly constituencies of Bhojpur which goes to polls in the third phase on October 28 have been classified as expenditure sensitive.
The constituencies each of Sitamarhi, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Banka and Munger have also been classified as expenditure sensitive. Two constituencies each in eight districts of Kishanganj, Purnia, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Samastipur,Lakhisarai, Aurangabad and Patna have been declared as expenditure sensitive.
