Easter, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is being celebrated across the globe today. The resurrection was announced at the stroke of midnight at churches and special prayers were held to mark the day.
Reports of celebrations have been received from different parts of the country including Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion.
In his message, Mr Kovind expressed the hope that the festival will instil a sense of unity among people and reinforce commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the nation.
Mr Naidu called upon people to celebrate Easter by being compassionate towards all human beings irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
Mr Modi hoped that the day will strengthen the bonds of unity, peace and brotherhood and that the ideals of Jesus Christ will motivate people to bring a positive difference to society.
