Vijayadashmi or Dussehra is being celebrated across the country today. The festival is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Ram over Ravana, marking the triumph of good over evil. The day also marks the culmination of Navratri and Durga Puja.
In the national capital, programmes of burning huge effigies of demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhakaran and son Meghnad have been organised in the evening at various places.
Besides, the idol immersion of Goddess Durga will also take place at various ghats of Yamuna in the city.
The Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
President Ram Nath Kovind has greeted the people on the occasion.
In a message, the President said, this is a day to share the happiness with the less-fortunate, the lonely and those in pain.
Mr Kovind called on people to celebrate Goddess Durga as the epitome of Shakti. The President also called on people to celebrate Lord Rama as a reflection of the moral and eternal values that have guided the way of life since time immemorial.
