The death toll in north east monsoon rain in the past two weeks has risen to more than 120 in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister Jayalaithaa spoke to Home Minister Rajnath Singh over phone and urged him to send the central team to assess rain damages in Tamil Nadu. The state government will be sending memorandum seeking assistance from National Disaster Response Fund by Monday.
The rain has led to severe damages especially in the northern parts of the state. It has left a trail of death and destruction in Cuddalore, Kanchipuram Chennai Tiruvallur and Villupuram. The state government agencies are coordinating with Army, Air Force Navy Coast Guard and NDRF in rain relief measures. Water has started receding in places flooded by rain water. Chief Minister has announced Rs 4 lakh each for the families of 118 persons killed in rain related incidents all over the state.
The Chief Minister has ordered to give books and school uniform to all students who lost their study material in rain flood. Orders were also given to issue duplicate ration cards to those who have lost it in rain water. Chennai Met office Director S R Ramanan said that there will be isolated rain in almost all parts of Tamil Nadu because of low pressure area formed over Lakshadweep and moisture over Bay of Bengal.
