Heavy-rain-in-MumbaiHeavy rains in Mumbai and suburbs since early morning today, has once again thrown life out of gear for Mumbaikars with water logging, heavy traffic jams and stranded suburban trains due to water on tracks.

The heavy rains have delayed the arrival and departure of aircraft at Domestic airport by 30 minutes. Many school managements have cancelled their afternoon shifts and some have altered their morning shifts and allowed children to go home.

Though not continuous, but spells of heavy rains at regular intervals has submerged railway tracks at Sion and Kurla stations crippling the Central Railway services completely while the Harbour and Western Railways are running 20-25 minutes late.

On Central railway many trains with thousands of people commuting to the city for office are stranded at atleast three stations- Sion, Kurla and Vidya Vihar. The slow track has been completely closed as the tracks are 6 inches below water and trains have now been diverted to tracks used for fast trains. The road traffic is worst with vehicles choc-a-block on Eastern as well as the Western highways, the main roads that connect the suburbs with the island city.

Till 11 am, the island city received 31.65 mm rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs received 16.41 mm and 12.19 mm respectively. The Met Departemnt has forecast heavy and continuous rains for next 48 hours in Mumbai and its suburbs.
