Congress Leaders under the leadership of party vice president Rahul Gandhi today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and urged him him to waive off loan of farmers, across the country.

“Met today the PM on the plight of our farmers; urged Govt to waive loans of farmers & provide relief to them at the earliest”Rahul told media persons.

At the meeting, Mr Gandhi, raised with the Prime Minister the plight of farmers who he met during a tour of Uttar Pradesh while campaigning in the state, where elections will be held soon.

Party also submitted a memorandum included farmers’ demand like loan waiver schemes and other issues. The memorandum also listed the problems faced by the farmer community due to the government’s decision to demonetise high value currency notes.

“We have submitted a memorandum seeking loan waiver for farmers. I also asked PM to waive off farmer loan like he had exempted industrialists from paying Rs 1.4 lakh crore of industrialists,” Rahul Gandhi told media.

After meeting the prime minister, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said, “Humne Pradhanmantri ji se kaha vo jaldi se jaldi kisaano ko rahat dein aur unka karza maaf karien. PM ne mana ke kisaano ki halat gambhir hai, karza maaf karne ki baat par unhone kuch nahi kaha sirf suna. (We asked the PM to provide relief to the farmers and waive off their loans. PM Modi agreed that the situation was grave for farmers. He didnt say anything on the loan waiver issue.)
