Congress has criticised the Prime Minister for his alleged remarks over 1984 anti Sikh riots. Briefing media in New Delhi today,  party spokesperson, Anand Sharma said, Prime Minister’s statement is politically motivated and an attempt to open wounds of 1984 riots.

In a rally in Bihar, Mr Narendra Modi quipped that Congress, whose leaders are allegedly responsible for anti-Sikh riots, is lecturing on intolerance.

Congress has no moral right to question BJP over intolerance: PM Modi

Noting that riots were tragic and will remain a sad chapter, Mr Sharma said, there is no need to politicize what happened after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He said, attempts are being made by the Prime Minister to divert attention from the core issues concerning the people of the country including growing intolerance and communal incidents in the country.
