Jammu-KashmirJammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has stressed on the need for promoting tourism in the state saying it is the biggest confidence building measure. She said the normalcy is returning to the valley gradually after the recent unrest and tourism can help more in this direction.

Addressing a tourism meet in New Delhi Tuesday, she asserted that Kashmiri people believe in democracy and peace and even today when condition is not conducive, students of the valley are studying in several Universities and colleges across the country. She said this could not have been possible if the parents of the children had any doubt about the goodwill of the people in other parts of the country.

Ms. Mehbooba said Kashmir is the safest place in the world for girls and women which is biggest thing a state can offer. She urged the tourists to visit the state as it has ample opportunities for heritage and religious tourism.

Earlier, during the meet there was ruckus following Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra’s remarks targeting her on the issue of terrorism. Later while speaking, the Chief Minister also got emotional and broke down.
