In a programme organized by Plan India and Dr. A.V. Baliga Memorial Trust here on Wednesday, she exhorted the people to come forward and give a voice to the thousands of children around them who are the victims of sexual abuse.
Prof. Walia expressing her concern about the rising problem of sexual harassment of the child, said that there is a wide spread acknowledgement that child sexual abuse is rampant, we choose to sweep it under the carpet rather than talk about it. Even the attitude of parents is usually to cover up the issue and blame the child rather they confront the offender. It is highly condemnable if we do so. The child sexual abuse is the physical or mental violation of a child with sexual intent, usually by the older person who is in some position of trust and or power, vis a vis the child .
Prof. Walia said that Delhi government is formulating a number of schemes and programmes for the welfare of the children and for their upliftment. The Delhi Child Protection Commission will soon come out with such schems and programmes. Prof. Walia appealed the society to give a helping hand to such children who are victim of sexual harassment by inspiring them to break their calm by using the campaign ‘Chuppi Todo’.
