Raigarh Collector Yashwant Kumar & ex-collector Shammi Abida receive award

Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh today bagged the prestigious national award for successful implementation of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) scheme. Raigarh district was awarded for its exemplary performance towards protection, welfare and education of girl children under ‘Effective Community Engagement Award’ category.

Raigarh Collector Yashwant Kumar and ex-collector Shammi Abida jointly received the award at the hands of Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi at a function organized on the occasion of National Girl Child Day here.

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has recognized and felicitated 25 districts for their exemplary performance under ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ scheme. The theme of the National Girl Child Day is ‘Empowering girls for a brighter tomorrow’. The day is being celebrated with an objective to generate awareness on the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio and create a positive environment around valuing the girl child.

Raigarh district has been constantly working from past four years towards creating a positive environment around valuing the girl child. As a result of which, the sex ratio in the district has increased from 918 per thousand in 2013-14 to 959 per thousand in 2018-19.
