In Chhattisgarh, eight Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Bijapur district yesterday. According to the police, a joint team of security forces comprising the District Reserve Guard, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) its elite unit Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and Special Task Force launched an anti-Naxalite operation after receiving intelligence input about the presence of Maoists in Gangalur area.

This resulted in a gunfight between security forces and Maoists. After the encounter, the bodies of eight Maoists were recovered from the spot. Several weapons including INSAS rifles and Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) launchers, were also recovered from the site. The search operation was still going on in the area when reports last came in.
