Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu today suggested a probe by the Lok Sabha Speaker or the government to look into alleged bribery charges against TMC leaders.

The issue of a sting operation in which leaders of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress are purportedly seen taking bribes raised in the Lok Sabha today.

Just after Question Hour, Mohammad Salim of the CPI(M) raised the issue terming it as serious matter. He said the House had earlier acted against such members and even expelled them. He urged Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to call for CDs of sting operation against and set up a house committee immediately to probe it.

He was supported by S.S. Ahluwalia of the BJP and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress. Mr. Ahluwalia said such episode is unfortunate for democracy and demanded for referring the matter to Ethics Committee.

When, Mr. Salim was raising the issue, there was heated exchange of words between him and TMC members over the issue. Saugata Roy of TMC countered the allegations saying that it is apolitical conspiracy against his party as the elections is round the corner.
