A CBI team today arrived in Bhopal to take over the probe into the Professional Examination Board-VYAPAM scam and mysterious deaths related to it. The agency is likely to initially take over cases registered by the state’s Special Task Force. It may request the state government later to transfer all related FIRs from the state police.
The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI had constituted a special team of 40 officers to probe the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. CBI sources said, the team headed by a Joint Director level officer will reach Bhopal today to take over investigations in the scam. CBI has taken the decision in compliance to the order of the Supreme Court in this regard.
On Thursday, a bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu had transferred the probe of all cases related to the scam to the CBI asking the investigating agency to file its report before the Apex Court on 24th of this month.
The apex court’s order came after the MP government gave its consent to transfer investigation of all Vyapam-related cases from the Special Investigation Team and the Special Task Force to the CBI. The Congress has claimed that 49 people associated with the scam have died so far.
