The Akhil Bhartiya Brahman Mahasabha , NGO has opposed the amendment in SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act saying it will file a petition in Supreme Court in this regard. Demanding that economic status should be the criteria for reservation, The President of the NGO, Radhey Shyam Sharma said that an amendment in SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, overturning the judgment of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, dated 20.3.2018 in Subhash Kashinath Mahajan Versus State of Maharashtra, is ultra-vires in nature. It violates fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.

ABBM president Sharma clarified that their organisation is not associated with any political outfit and will launch an all india awareness programme against reservation on caste basis. As part of plan, ABBM will hold dharna at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday. “ABBM will approach social activist Anna Hazare ji to be a part of the same. ABBM will organize meetings across the country to create awareness about the advantages of reservation on economic basis. He also informed that they are not part of any political outfit, “said President Sharma.

Stating that caste-based reservation is a permanent speed-breaker in the progress of the society, Akhil Bhartiya Brahman Mahasabha, General Secratary, R.D. Vats said caste- based reservation hinders the overall growth and development of the country.

Talking about the awareness programme, Vats said that ABBM will hold a symbolic dharna and protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday (September 30) at 10 Am to 3 pm in protest against the Amendment in SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and demand that economic status should be criteria for reservation.

ABBM will hold candle march on third Sunday of every month from 6.00 P.M. to 7.00 P.M. in more than 100 cities of India including New Delhi, NCR, Jaipur, Ahemdabad, Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir and several cities of Uttar Pradesh simultaneously. ABBM will also challenge the Amendment in SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Supreme Court. ABBM will also form a Joint Committee from the general category of people all over India and organize a Rally at Ramlila Maidan. –Press Release-
